The Bougainvillea Hideaway

Enter a hollow of leaves and fuchsia flowers. Random thoughts litter the floor like a bed of crushed petals.

Ramble

Oona and I ran across this one in her reader the other day:

"Seal Lullaby"

What a wonderful little poem. I'd never read it before.

I didn't know that it came from a story ("The White Seal") in The Jungle Book. I think I had only read one of the stories, "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi", from a condensed version of the book when I was a kid. I think I should purchase an unabridged copy of the book for our library.

Anyway, it also made me think of (and listen to) a CD we have that the kids (and Andy and I) listened to a lot when they were much younger: Seal Maiden. Some of the songs on it are fun and others are beautiful. Karan Casey does a great job of narrating the story and she also does a great job with the songs she sings on the CD.

And they both reminded me of The Secret of Roan Inish, which I knew before the CD or the poem

So, yeah, the poem and the CD and the movie...never mind. I'll spare you the pun. ;)

Anyway, I'm glad summer is here. Things have slowed down a little bit.
