The Bougainvillea Hideaway

Enter a hollow of leaves and fuchsia flowers. Random thoughts litter the floor like a bed of crushed petals.

The Day

Nothing much to write about tonight. Today was a just relax and play type of day. I probably should have done more chores and cleaning than I did. Eh. Though it was nice taking a break from my usual weekend-mega-cleaning this weekend.

We took the kids to the used book store down the road in the late afternoon. It was a first for them. I can count on my hand the times I've been there. It's a fairly nice used book store with little nooks and alcoves and benches and stools. They even have a curious turtle housed in an aquarium. When Ro and I approached the tank the turtle followed over to where we were.

I bought a book about time saving in sewing (yay!), a children's encyclopedia for the school room or the living room bookshelves, and a book on sixteenth century verse that I've been meaning to buy for a while.

And the wonkly thing of it is that I buy way too many nonfiction books and there's never enough time to learn all of the things that they contain. And book buying easily turns into an addiction for me :(. I used to read a lot more fiction like Andy does. I'm now mostly a how-to fiend. Maybe I should make some time for a good work of fiction soon.

Oona bought a book that a friend of ours had illustrated. She's a fan of his work and has a passion for drawing and art. Ronin looked at a bunch of books and then found one about the human body. He likes anatomy stuff and science in general. Andy picked up some Asimov and Heinlein and other sci-fi works. Good ol' sci-fi! Good ol' used book store!

We had about twenty-five dollars of credit so we didn't end up spending much money. That's a good thing. Whenever we go to Borders it ends up costing us arms and legs and elbows, even. So we don't do that very often. And when we do, we've taken to bringing a pen and paper (or trying to remember to bring a pen and paper) so we can write down titles and then buy books much cheaper elsewhere.

Then we had to go to the grocery store. Bleh, but also not bleh. I think I could spend hours in there just looking at stuff if I had the time.
