The Bougainvillea Hideaway

Enter a hollow of leaves and fuchsia flowers. Random thoughts litter the floor like a bed of crushed petals.

Here are some great scenery photos from First Landing State Park plus two of the kids at the beach (all were taken by Andy):

It really was neat seeing a different part of Virginia in the fall. They seemed to have experienced autumn at a later time than we did (I'll have to check Va Beach's zone). We don't have many swampy areas where we live. I wondered what it would be like looking at this scene in the spring. There were also holly bushes/trees in the park growing alongside the deciduous trees. It made for a breathtaking scene. I'm used to holly being used more in gardens and hadn't seen it grown out by quite a bit into tree form.

These are, of course, pictures of fallen leaves on the water surface. The protrusions you see in the first photo are called knees (something I don't remember seeing too much of around the part of Va. where I'm from, if at all). The thinner leaves reminded me of small carp. Beautiful!

The only nest that we saw on our small hike.

Lovely autumnal color display of pine needles, leaves, pine cones, and twigs centered by tree roots.

I've seen Spanish moss in Texas but had no idea that it grew in Virginia. Magnificent stuff.

This is a neat one because of the way the picture is taken. The group of trees form a white line but none of their trunks are completely straight and the colors of the trees in the background make them stand out. The line of trees and a shrubbish treecreates an arc and makes the point of the left corner of the picture stand out. Neat!

Oona pointing at the sand turtle she was creating. Though it's hard to tell in this picture if it is a sand turtle or a print of a paw, foot, or hand.

Ronin loved watching the waves on the ocean and how far they would come up on shore before only sea foam was left. In this one, he reminds me of a music director/conductor.
